Sosoliso Plane Crash Survivor sends a Memo to President Goodluck Jonathan

Kelechi Onwuchi is one of the two survivors of the December 2005 Sosoliso Airlines Flight 1145 Crash which killed 108 people.
In this video,she pleads with the President to make a commitment to work on the frequency of Plane Crashes occurrence in Nigeria. She believes Nigeria can avoid such tragedies and wants to contribute towards making our skies safe.

The level of fright one experiences whenever you board a domestic flight in Nigeria due to lack of Maintenance,engine issues,poor management is alarmingly on the increase. I ask again "who manages our aviation sector?". Story for another day. 

 It is quite unfortunate that in a Country as rich as Nigeria, the Government still haven't done anything concerning this girl. She was a little girl in Secondary School full of hopes when it happened. A government that seeks  the interest of its people do not need to be told to sponsor all her Medical expenses and rehabilitate her properly.

I hope the President listens to her plea.

Breaking News; crisis in Plateau State Nigeria as Fulani tribe fights Biron tribe

There is an on going crisis reportedly going on in Plateau state. Fulani people have been having constant clashes with Biron (the name of the tribe) people. They had clashed with the Fang community ,Lwe and Shunong community all made up of Biron people in Plateau state. I heard soldiers have been deployed to the area.

I will bring in more details of what the fight is all about. I sincerely hope they put an end to this constant fights and bloodshed.

Senators defection to APC

I have tried not to comment on the cross-carpeting of PDP  legislators to the APC mainly because I have been so busy and is not interested in useless research. However, page 12 of today's Guardian suggests that the Senator defectors rely on the proviso to s. 68 (1) (g) CFRN which permits membership of a party different from that which is the platform of election on grounds "...of a division in the political party of which he was previously a member or of a merger of two or more political parties or factions by one of which he was previously sponsored." This assumption is not largely tenable for the following reasons:
1. The first leg presupposes that two parties emerge from the same party and the defector is a member of one of these two parties. This is not the case in the present situation. APC is a totally different party and did not emerge from the PDP;

2. The second leg provides for a situation where (a) the party is factionalized and one of the now separated factions of which the defector is a member merges with another party or (b) the party itself merges with another party and ceases to exist.

The second case is a bit tricky but again this is not the case with at least the PDP Senators. It has to be shown that the faction belonged to an existent and recognized PDP faction which then merged with another party. If the first group of defectors comprising governors et all could be said to be a faction which then merged with the APC, which is doubtful, the Senators and many other legislators who have since been singly defecting to the APC would not be said to belong to that faction because as soon as they purportedly merged, they ceased being a faction of the PDP and became members of the rival APC so that any further defections, save if they could be constituted further factions of the PDP are defections simplicity of members of the PDP to a rival party.

The Courts would therefore be clearly guided by first determining the constitution of a party faction. It is submitted that a faction of a party would at least mirror the party itself by strength of membership, organization and recognition. It is inconceivable that the Constitution intended that 3 members of a party with membership running into millions will constitute themselves a faction. It should be recalled that fictionalization of a party has far-reaching implications such as recognition by INEC, determination of its authentic candidates etc. Finally, it is important for purposes of certainty in the law, to call to mind the now preponderant ratio of our highest Courts, that votes of the electorate are cast for political parties.

The pit toilet

This is disgusting, nasty,irritating,an eyesore. Animals aren't even suppose to live here but our dear Youth Corpers who are serving their fatherland in the mandatory one year National Youth Service Programme are forced to live here for 3 weeks.  They live in this disgusting environment for that long at Nysc camp in Iseyin, Oyo State.

This is a breeding ground for different diseases and definitely not habitable. As a nation,we should definitely do better. 

WHAT DID AN ANGEL LIKE THIS DO?

The culture of giving birth to beautiful babies and abandoning them dead or alive has reached a fever pitch in Nigeria. The other day in Unilag, a student reportedly gave birth and dumped the innocent baby in a toilet. Other bizarre instances abound. What i don't understand is why go ahead to get pregnant or impregnate a lady when you know you might not be able to take care of the baby?I think it's stupidity, unreasonable and wicked for people to have unprotected sex knowing the likely outcome. People should learn to take precautionary measures while having sex otherwise it leaves human beings not any better than animals-even animals do not abuse sex like humans do.

Every fetus conceived is a life in the making with all the Fundamental Rights recognizable under the law-see the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and the Child Rights Act and various other Instruments with provisions related thereto. Therefore it becomes unlawful and irresponsible for anybody to ever think of disposing a child whether born or unborn and in any manner whatsoever. Meanwhile in Nigeria it is illegal to solicit, carry out, aid and abet abortion. The implication of this therefore is that people should wake up and become responsible for their acts. The rascality and absurdity of baby-disposal should be severely punished by the Government to the effect that anyone caught in the act MUST face dire consequences.

Children are angelic beings sent by God to live amongst men, why then should any sane mind abort, kill and or dispose of them in such an animalistic way as pictured above?        

Between Nigerians' search for greener pastures and self delusion

Beautiful streets ,clean neighborhood,steady power supply,mortgage facility,bright lights, high standard way of living,these and more seem to be the reason for the rush to foreign lands. The economic situation of Nigeria coupled with the insecurity equally encourage the mass exodus of Nigerians to foreign lands in search of greener pastures 

 The question is "are the pastures actually greener in foreign lands?". With the condition under which Nigerians live ,it is obvious that the grass may not be actually green at all. A lot of Nigerians who migrated abroad in search of these "better life" actually end up living in misery and abject poverty. Most of them do all sorts of degrading and indecent jobs which they will never think of doing back home such as washing plates in restaurants,security at the club,washing toilets etc. The sad part of it is that most of them are graduates with good qualifications that can get them good jobs they deserve in Nigeria.

Are you a graduate with the dreams of  a "better life" abroad? You have chances of getting a great Job here in Nigeria so do not be carried away by the over sensationalized media branding of the western world.

Nigeria is a growing economy with many opportunities which attracts direct foreign investments,contribute your quota to it and remember the Grass is not always greener at the other side.

Government's Lip Service to Housing for the Masses

It has become disheartening and very embarrassing to see Nigerian Citizens who have a Government that supposedly oversees their affairs living in abject poverty and penury. Most Nigerian citizens are so poor that they cannot even afford the basic necessities of life. Such things like accommodation,food ,health care facilities and education which are very common in the Western world are in Nigeria regarded as luxury.

The Government whose sole responsibility is the provision of these basic needs of life have gone on a frolic of public treasury looting,economic sabotage and official grandstanding.

In major cities of Nigeria, for example Lagos,Abuja e.t.c,there are gigantic houses developed by private citizens which are unoccupied and wasting because these houses are ordinarily unaffordable to the average and  Low income earning Nigerians . 

The Government should devise a means of regulating the proliferation of unaffordable, expensive and luxury houses by implementing an effective Tax system that will force developers to build Low income houses for the masses in these Cities;

• There should be a check on the prices for houses in urban cities.
• There should be an effective Mortgage in place such as is obtainable in the Western world where almost everybody is entitled or qualified for Mortgage.
• The Government can equally regulate the cost of building materials and also discourage Monopoly of certain materials that are very important in development of houses.
• Government can also partner with private developers to ensure that houses are made evenly available and affordable to the common man.

Disturbing scenes such as people sleeping under the bridges, springing up of shanties in Cities and homelessness due to the rise in cost of housing should be adequately looked into by Government with the aim of putting an end to such a shame.
