Dear Motorist in Nigeria, you should read this list

Nigerian Police have the right to ask you for any of the things i will list below:

• Driving  License
• Insurance Certificate
• Certificate of road worthiness(For commercial vehicles only)Motorists DO NOT need to present the following items
• Vehicle purchase documents
• proof of ownership(if it is registered or unregistered)
• Receipt of plate number
  
  
• ECMR

Although the press release was issued by the former IGP, many motorists who carry a copy around till date testify that it has saved them a lot of harassment, from men of the police force. These police men knows the extent of what they should check for but they capitalize on the ignorance of motorists.

If you can't get a copy,you are aware of what the Police have a right to, and what not

The Vehicle Inspection Office(VIO) is saddled more with the responsibility to do thorough checks, not the police force.
