Lets look at this aspect of domestic violence in Nigeria and Africa as a whole. There is this vow of silence amongst women that are being abused domestically. The victims for fear of stigmatization in the society remain complacent. Most times they are not self empowered or adequately and sufficiently aware of their rights under the Law. Women who go through domestic abuse and violence become psychologically and mentally disconnected,while a lot of them go through low esteem issues.
Any woman that is facing domestic abuse should please speak up as your life depends on it .
Men who abuse women are usually weaklings who capitalize on the weakness of their victims.
Lagos state Government has taken a step to curb this trending evil by passing the domestic violence bill which criminalizes domestic violence. Other states in Nigeria should take a cue from Lagos state government.
